Europa Report

INTRODUCTION

Perception collaborated with Wayfare Entertainment and Director Sebastian Cordero to develop a suite of screen designs and UI’s for the cerebral sci-fi film Europa Report. The process involved designing and animating a multitude of elements to populate a wide range of screen surfaces within the Europa One spacecraft, where the majority of the film takes place. Perception’s futuristic graphics were meticulously honed to balance sleekness with utility – perfectly matching the film’s scientifically accurate vision of the future.

INSPIRATION

From Perception’s earliest meetings with Director Sebastian Cordero, there was an emphasis on making all elements feel as realistic as possible. With this conceit in mind, the team at Perception took inspiration from various real-world interfaces, as well as other grounded designs.

INITIAL LOOK DEVELOPMENT

To begin a dialog with director Sebastian Cordero and the team at Wayfare Entertainment, Perception developed numerous looks and color schemes to determine which sensibilities best matched the tone of the film.

APPROVED STYLE

Perception combined modern screen designs and animations with a retro-inspired amber color scheme. This resulted in screen displays that seemed sophisticated, while remaining grounded and realistic.
